Television Jamaica aired Slavery Reparations In Focus on Prime Time News on 20 September 2026 and published it the same day. It runs under two minutes.
TVJ’s framing is direct: “Jamaica’s reparations petition to King Charles is putting Britain’s role in slavery back in the spotlight.” The report picks up a recent British television debate which, in TVJ’s words, “exposed the sharp divide over what reparations should mean — and whether Britain today has a responsibility to provide them.”
This is a news clip, not a documentary, and it is on the Reel deliberately. The films around it explain how the history was made. This is the history arriving in the present tense, on a Jamaican newscast, as Britain argues about it.
The divide TVJ describes is the real story. Whether Britain owes repair at all, and what repair would mean if it did, are separate questions, and they are easily run together.
For the case as the Caribbean makes it, watch Sir Hilary Beckles at the United Nations, also on the Video Reel.
