Bolivia's Maritime Claim: Battle to Undo 139-Year-Old Conquest

Bolivia's Day of the Sea, observed every Mar. 23, commemorates the nation's loss of sovereign access to the Pacific Ocean to Chile during the War of the Pacific (1879 - 1884). This year's anniversary coincides with oral hearings in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Hague, between March 19 and 28, during which Bolivia and Chile presented arguments to settle the 139-year-old territorial dispute.
