GUYANA | Chief Elections Officer submits report with original Region Four declaration to give APNU+AFC win

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, July 11, 2020 - Chief Election Officer Keith Lowenfield on Saturday handed in his final report on the elections to the GECOM Chair showing the incumbent APNU+AFC with the majority of votes. However,  one of the PPP nominated Commissioners, Sase Gunraj, says the report as an “eyepass” or disrespect to the Commission, on the basis that Lowenfield was in violation of the instructions from the GECOM Chair.

GUYANA | CCJ Rules, Guyana Court of Appeal Decision Thrown out

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, July 8, 2020 - The Caribbean Court of Justice, having found that it did indeed have jurisdiction to hear the appeal in the Guyana Election case, in a unanimous verdict, threw out the decision of the Guyana Appeal Court that inserted the word “valid” into the consideration of votes for the election of a president.

GUYANA begins defence of 1899 Arbital award against Venezuela in ICJ

THE HAGUE, June 30, 2020 - Guyana’s Co-Agent and Head of the Legal Team in Guyana’s border case against Venezuela, Sir Shridath Ramphal told the International Court of Justice today that Guyana is maintaining that the ICJ  does have jurisdiction in the matter,  based on the plain text of the 1966 Geneva Agreement by which the parties consented to accept the decision of the UN Secretary-General on the means of settlement of their dispute over the validity of the 1899 Arbitral Award.
