JAMAICA | Ministry of Health Establishes Medicinal Cannabis Unit

KINGSTON, JUNE 7, 2018 - The Ministry of Health has established a Medicinal Cannabis Unit (MCU) as part of measures to facilitate the medical marijuana industry’s development in Jamaica. So says Portfolio Minister, Dr. the Hon. Christopher Tufton in a Ministry Paper tabled in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.

Tufton concerned over effect of 'Ganja Law' on youth

KINGSTON, June 30, 2016- Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton has lamented a 50 per cent increase in the number of students now being treated for marijuana use, and has recommended an in-depth review of the impact that amendments to the Dangerous Drugs Act are having on the country.

Health Ministry Ramps Up Zika control activity

KINGSTON, March 20, 2016- The Ministry of Health is conducting vector control and fever surveillance activities in three communities in which three new cases of the Zika Virus have been detected. The areas are Greater Portmore and Christian Meadows in St. Catherine, and Lyssons in St. Thomas.

Supreme Court to rule on Senate Impasse

KINGSTON, February 24, 2015- Clerk to the Houses of  Parliament Mrs. Heather Cooke, has filed an application in the Supreme Court on Monday  asking for a determination on the status of  Arthur Williams and Dr. Christopher Tufton who have resumed their seats in the Senate.
