JDF, US Coast Guard suspend search for downed plane

Featured JDF, US Coast Guard suspend search for downed plane
One day after the United States Coast Guard pulled out of the search and recovery operation off the eastern parish of Portland for the aircraft that crashed last Friday, the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) has suspended its search for the single engine aircraft.

The US Coast Guard had been offering support to the JDF since Friday, as they sought to find the aircraft as well as the bodies of  the two American passengers.

Despite the pullout of the US, the JDF has continued in the search, however the weather could affect the speed of the operation.

“We are still very much committed to recovering as much of the debris as possible but I must admit that it is not very encouraging at the moment, the weather pattern has been poor at times and this has hampered the operation and will also help to disperse any remaining debris.

This is a round the clock operation and we make decision as time goes by , I believe a decision will be made later on as to what the next steps are,” said JDF Spokesman Major Basil Jarrett.

On Friday afternoon, the aircraft, which crashed approximately 1:10 , having departed from Rochester, New York, earlier in the day, heading south to Naples, Florida with billionaire real estate developer Larry Glazer and his wife Jane.
