Featured JAMAICA | Opposition legislator Anthony Hylton condemns US blockade against Cuba
Kingston, Jan 22 (Prensa Latina) Jamaican parliamentarian Anthony Hylton on Friday condemned the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, a position that his country maintains today in the face of this unilateral policy that has been rejected by the international community.

During a meeting with Cuban Ambassador to Jamaica Ines Fors Fernandez, Hylton described Washington's blockade as an 'inhumane and illegitimate policy', and demanded its immediate lifting, according to the website of Cuban embassies abroad.

Hylton, who was Jamaica's minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (2006-2007), repudiated the decision by the outgoing US administration to include Cuba in the list of state sponsors of terrorism.

In his opinion, that announcement by then US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on January 11 contrasts with the traditional solidarity and humanist stance of the Cuban Government and people.

The Jamaican lawmaker expressed confidence in the preservation of relations existing since 1972 between Jamaica and Cuba, in addition to the rest of the countries of the Caribbean Community.
