JAMAICA | PNP Oppose States of Emergency as Crime Plan for the next seven years

KINGSTON, Jamaica July 16, 2019 - Despite continued demands from the parliamentary opposition for a workable crime plan to tackle the mounting number of murders that continue to plague the island, prime minister Andrew Holness is maintaining that a state of emergency was the best tool at this time for achieving meaningful reductions in murders.

Kingston, Jamaica, July 3, 2019: The President of the People’s National Party (PNP) and Leader of the Opposition, Dr Peter Phillips, says he welcomes the call from the President of the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica (PSOJ),  Howard Mitchell, for the government and Opposition to sit with civil society to discuss the root causes of crime.
